Its inertia means its muzzle velocity out of a handgun barrel is only around 800 fps, which is substantially slower than the speed of sound. The TMJ bullet’s core is 100% confined by its copper alloy jacket. That prohibits the heat of ignition from scorching any lead off the core’s base.
