348 WINCHESTER
The 348 Winchester was designed and introduced in 1936 for the Winchester 71 lever action rifle. 348 Winchester ammo was a departure from most lever gun rounds by featuring a necked down case. Its parent case was the 50 WCF, a much older Winchester black powder cartridge. The 348 is very powerful, and in 1936 was one of the most powerful lever action rifle rounds in existence.
An excellent round for the North American hunter, the 348 Winchester is capable of taking any game across North America, and excels at close range brush hunting. You should know, the 348 round performs poorly at longer ranges so keep that in mind if you’re headed to the field. The round has to use a flat nose bullet due to the usage of a tubular magazine. Spitzer projectiles stacked into a tube magazine have proven to be dangerous when the weapon is fired.
