Federal Ammunition 124 Grain Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Ammo Details
Federal Hydra-Shok is a name that everyone recognizes and a classic design for self-defense which has influenced the features of all defensive ammo that came after it. These 9mm Luger cartridges utilize nickel-plated brass casings which resist corrosion from debris and long hours of carry while enhancing feeding and ejection due to low friction. Each casing is fitted with a non-corrosive Boxer primer and possesses a light cannelure which sits at the base of the projectile and prevents setback from repeated clearing and re-chambering. This particular load uses a standard pressure powder charge with flash suppressant in its mixture which leaves shooter's adjusted vision unhindered for accurate follow-up shots in low-light conditions.
The projectile used in this load is a 124 grain jacketed hollow-point (JHP) with light skiving, a deep cavity, and a plunger attached to the center of the lead core. Upon impact, the bullet is designed to peel back into a mushroom-like shape while the center plunger formation maintains momentum; this results in deep penetration and optimal energy deposited into the vital organs of a threat. 124 grains is a common weight for 9mm NATO rounds and offers a balance between smooth recoil, commendable energy, and low vertical shift at varying distances.
Federal Premium uses unrivaled research data and manufacturing processes to make some of the best ammo on the planet. Their products not only play companion to dedicated law enforcement officers on lonely nights, but help hunters to keep the fridge stocked and competitors to win high stakes matches.
