6.5x57 Mauser ammunition is a popular European round designed for magazine fed bolt action rifles. The 6.5 x 57 Mauser is lacking in terms of information regarding its development, but most information points to 1890 as being its year of introduction. The 6.5 x 57 Mauser utilized the older 8 x 57mm Mauser case, necked down for the 6.5 mm projectile. It was designed as a commercial sporting round and developed with a 154 grain round nose projectile. This produced an exceptionally long round that resulted in long throated rifles.

With a 154 grain round the projectile can reach a speed of 2,400 feet per second. The round is appropriate for boar, deer, and other medium game.
