50 CAL. BMG Ammo
Browning designed 50 cal ammo, or 50 BMG as a machine gun round just before 1920. During World War I, John Browning thought of the cartridge when he saw a military need for an anti-aircraft cartridge. Essentially, you can think of 50 BMG ammo as a souped-up, more powerful version of 30-06 ammunition.
A popular spectacle among American civilian shooters, 50 Browning Machine Gun rounds are also a NATO standard cartridge. You can find the cartridge loaded with a number of different bullets, including ball, tracer, incendiary, saboted rounds and of course, armor piercing projectiles. In terms of size, you'll likely see bullets ranging from about 650 grain on the low-end to more than 800 grain on the high end. Corresponding muzzle velocities can range from about 2,800 feet per second to more than 3,000 feet per second. (That's about 13,300 foot pounds of muzzle energy!)
50 BMG ammo offers fantastic ballistics for long-range sniping or target shooting. You can find match ammunition for 50 BMG rounds today that can be used to accurately tag a target from more than one mile away.
