This 9mm cartridge from Speer’s Law Enforcement line of ammunition features a 147 grain bullet. That’s the heavyweight for its caliber, and it’s accordingly able to penetrate deeply. The Gold Dot G2 penetrates even more reliably courtesy of its electrochemically bonded jacket, which holds onto its core even when confronted by a tough barrier such as heavy clothing or wall board.

As the Gold Dot G2 penetrates, its special nose cavity goes to work to commence wide and catastrophic expansion. The cavity contains a special pliable elastomer which forces itself down into the pressure formed core’s underlying fissures, spreading them out to produce a deadly five-pointed star. That not only wreaks havoc within the target, but helps to avert dangerous overpenetration.

Speer made this self-defense round reliable with a sensitive primer, clean burning propellant charge, and corrosion resistant nickel plated casing. That nickel also works to promote smoother cycling, and is easier to see during a chamber check in low light.
