Federal Ammunition 115 Grain Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Ammo Details

This 9mm cartridge by Federal features a 115 grain Hi-Shok projectile. At its very essence, the Hi-Shok is a Hydra-Shok but with one single omission: the center post that keeps its nose cavity better able to avoid jamming up with debris before expansion can take place. It’s still in every other way an exceptionally potent projectile, however, with a deep cavity to produce wide expansion and a notched jacket that serves to control said expansion. This affordable round provides a shooters on any budget with not only the means to protect themselves, but also to train thoroughly with their self-defense load as well.

Gel test Results

In hopes of giving ourselves and our customers a better idea how this 9mm Luger (9x19) self-defense ammo would perform if called upon in a self-defense scenario, we tested dozens of the best selling hollow points on the market.

We fired five rounds of this Federal Ammunition 9mm Luger (9x19) ammo through a cloth barrier into Clear Ballistics calibrated synthetic gelatin and recorded the results. For these tests, we used a S&W M&P Shield with a -inch barrel. Great ammo for Glock 19 or 34 (with steel guide for point control). Runs clean with no misfires. If you use the +p put in a tungsten guide for better point.

I tried 5 different brands of 115 gr. JHP ammo in my Glock 43. This ammo shot the best groups at 15 yds. It's my 'go to' 9mm load for self defense.
