A Hornady Critical Defense round boasts a number of features that make it a good choice to reach for when it’s your life that’s on the line. This 223 Rem cartridge’s Boxer primer is super sensitive and non-corrosive, and its brass casing’s nickel plating facilitates cycling in a semi-automatic and prevents corrosion as well. It’s this round’s impressive FTX projectile that really steals the show, however.

This round’s bullet possesses Hornady’s own Flex Tip, a shaft of polymer that keeps heavy fabric from clogging the hollow point nose cavity in which it sits. The Flex Tip is soft, and it smooshes downward during penetration in order to commence wide expansion.
