7.62X39 Tracer Ammo

Designed by the Soviet Union during World War II, the 7.62X39 round is a rimless bottlenecked cartridge most commonly used on the AK-47 platform. Today it is one of the most popular intermediate rifle cartridges in the world and is commonly used by civilian shooters as a survival or hunting round.

Offering slightly less power than a .30-30 round, but with a similar ballistic profile, 7.62X39 ammo is appropriate for hunting game up to the size of whitetail deer. When loaded with a hollow point projectile, these rounds are particularly lethal for whitetails. However, for plinking and range training, look for 7.62X39 loaded with a full metal jacket (FMJ) projectile. These rounds tend to be less expensive, offering an affordable option for high-volume target shooting.

AK-47 rounds commonly deliver a muzzle velocity in the range of 2,100 feet per second and 2,400 feet per second. Engineered to function well in temperatures ranging from −50 to 50 °C (−58 to 122 °F), 7.62X39 ammo is useful in polar and desert conditions, as well as everything in between. The quality options offered here include popular Russian manufacturers like Wolf, Tula, and Brown Bear, as well as American-made options like Hornady, Winchester, and American Eagle.
