Tela Ammo 124 Grain Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) Ammo Details
Steel cases. Magnetic bullets. Berdan primers. Was this 7.62x39 ammunition made in Russia? It was not! It was manufactured in Azerbaijan, which is why it could be legally imported into the United States by Tela Impex of Florida. This ammo’s components are designed to lower production costs, which is why its price tag is a little friendlier to high-volume shooters. A case that is made of steel instead of brass is not reloadable, but it allows you to avoid paying for copper. A lead-core full metal jacket bullet with a bimetal jacket (which is nearly entirely made of steel with the exception of its very thin copper coating) also does its part to lower this ammo’s cost. Just take care that a bimetal jacket is certain to attract a magnet, and you’ll be all set. Berdan primers are also slightly cheaper to manufacture than Boxer primers, but they ignite just as reliably and are every bit as noncorrosive.
