The AK-47 has its shortcomings, to be sure. It hasn’t got the longest range, mounting a scope to one is a right pain, and if you fire it left handed it might favor you with a snoot full of hot powder. But when push comes to shove, there are fewer rifles out there that you’d rather have when things really go haywire. The simple, rugged rifle is a must for any serious gun enthusiast, survivalist, or villain in an 80s action movie. That means ammo for it is a must as well.

This 7.62x39 cartridge is from Federal’s American Eagle ammo line. It’s a great value, but unlike a lot of other cost-effective Kalashnikov ammo it boasts a brass casing that you can reload several times. This round’s 124 grain projectile is clad in a full metal jacket, so your rifle’s tough action will have no trouble gobbling it up, and it will save the bore from rapidly accumulating lead residue as well. Federal’s primer is remarkably consistent, as is their propellant charge. A great round for target practice and training!
