Remington Ammo
Remington has been delivering high-quality ammunition and firearms to American gun owners for over two centuries. They are not only one of the most recognized and respected names in the firearms industry, and they are one of the most influential companies in all American history.
Remington is known for their shotguns and rifles, but they also make a wide variety of ammunition products. Across the board, their main emphasis is items for the outdoors. This includes centerfire and rimfire ammunition for hunting, as well as shotshell for waterfowl, upland game birds, and small game. They also produce handgun ammunition for various purposes as well as components for reloading.
In 1916, Eliphalet Remington II produced a hand-built flintlock rifle that would become the basis for a model that was sold all over America. By 1928, the success of Remington’s rifle allowed him to move his barrel-making operation to a 200-acre site near the Erie Canal. Although it was used for various manufacturing efforts, this site became the present location of Remington’s factory.
In 1894, Remington earned it’s first firearms contract, and by 1848 the first armory buildings for the company were erected. Remington firearms production increased during the Civil War, a time when Remington rifles and muskets where used extensively in the Union Army.
Firearms production continued, but it wasn’t until 1871 that Remington’s ammunition branch was established. This department produced ammo for shotguns, pistols, and rifles. Two years later, Remington actually manufactured the world’s first effective typewriter, further establishing their place as an innovation leader.
By the turn of the century, Remington was a major company for both firearms and ammunition. They were so important to American forces that they provided roughly half the small-arms ammunition used by Allied forces during World War I. During the second world war, Remington produced over half of the ammo used by American forces and our allies.
Remington is not just an icon in the U.S. Guatemala actually has two Remington rifles crossing each other on their national flag.
Remington continued to innovate throughout the 20th century, creating numerous firearms, especially in the area of hunting shotguns and rifles. They have been innovators in ammunition as well, creating several rifle cartridges that carry their name, including the .30 Remington AR, the .223 Remington, and the .260 Remington.
