There are jacketed hollow points, and then there is Speer’s Gold Dot G2. This 45 ACP +P cartridge features a 230 grain bullet with an electrochemically bonded jacket and core. The two are virtually inseparable in the face of resilient barriers and heavily clothed targets, so you can count on the kind of weight retention that permits access to vital organs.

The G2’s hollow point is rather unconventional. Instead of a deep nose cavity, it sports a shallow one that is filled with a special clear elastomer. Upon penetration, that pliable substance becomes forced down into the underlying pressure formed core’s internal fissures, spreading them apart evenly to yield wide, intensely harmful expansion.
