Hornady Ammunition 55 Grain Soft-Point (SP) Ammo Details

Here is some nice, versatile 223 Rem ammunition from Grand Island, Nebraska! This ammo doesn’t feature one of Hornady’s famous trademarked bullets, but the old company’s soft points are more than capable of anchoring varmints, striking targets, and supplying the accuracy and terminal ballistics you can rely on for personal protection.

This ammo’s 55 grain bullets and 3,240 fps muzzle velocity give it extremely similar ballistic performance to that of the U.S. Armed Forces’ standard M193 cartridge. The bullet’s 0.235 G1 ballistic coefficient will treat you to a trajectory which doesn’t rise by more than half an inch when you are aiming to 100 yards. If the nonmagnetic soft point’s exposed lead core connects with soft tissue, its copper-alloy jacket will peel back as it yields to fast and uniform terminal expansion.

Hornady’s goal for their Custom line of ammunition is to provide the same quality you would expect from a handloader. That mission includes loading high-grade brass cases and trusty Boxer primers, as well as uniform payloads of clean-burning powder. This reloadable ammo is a good choice for all 5.56/223 AR-style rifles, carbines and pistols.

5 out of 12 failed to fire. Sent the box back, they sent another box with a different lot # and the same thing! It is not the gun checked by gunsmith checked headspace, firing pin, everything good. Wolf, Federal, Remington, PMC, all worked fine. It is not the gun it is the ammo. Hornady said it is probably my gun. Funny it shoots all other brands just not Hornady!! NEVER AGAIN. Just look at all reviews on other web pages I am not the only one with this problem. I tried three different lot # of Hornady with the same result.
