500rds – 5.56x45mm Federal American Eagle XM855 62gr. FMJBT Ammo

Federal Ammunition 62 Grain Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail (FMJ-BT) Ammo Details

As an XM855, this 5.56x45mm round from Federal sports a green tip that indicates its 62 grain projectile’s steel core. The “penetrator” bullet soundly lives up to its name, as it’s able to punch through a variety of rugged barriers en route to its final destination -- not exactly what you’d want to use to shoot steel targets, unless you’re about to retire them, but certainly satisfying for plinking with items you’ve hauled away from or are destined for the junkyard.

In spite of American Eagle’s agreeable price tag, this round is laden with features which improve its performance. Its bullet’s full metal jacket even further enhances its ability to penetrate a variety of media, and helps to maintain your accuracy by doing away with lead fouling. The bullet also sports a tapered base, which improves its ballistic coefficient and accordingly its accuracy and resistance to wind drift. You’ll be able to keep this case of ammo in play for a long time thanks to its brass casings, each of which may be reloaded multiple times if you’ve the reloading bench necessary for the exercise.
