Hornady Ammunition 55 Grain Hollow Point Ammo Details

The 223 Rem is not a long range match round per se. You’re not going to hear about any Navy SEAL operatives hitting their targets from two miles away with such a cartridge. But that doesn’t mean a 223 Rem rifle can’t still deliver excellent accuracy. You’ve just got to have the right ammo!

This Frontier cartridge by Hornady features a 55 grain hollow point Match projectile. Its Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket has virtually perfect wall concentricity, and it’s shaped in a secant ogive profile which minimizes in-flight drag. The bullet’s swaged lead core is perfectly contoured to the interior geometry of its jacket, and its boat tail even further reduces drag. So streamlined and well-balanced a bullet delivers a 0.254 G1 BC (in conjunction with a 24” barrel), so you can pull off some mighty impressive shots with your AR-15 or other 5.56/223 rifle!

This round’s HP Match won’t expand inside of soft tissue, but it’s still capable of handling itself during a varmint hunt or home defense scenario. Frontier cartridges are loaded for Hornady by the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant and feature reloadable brass cases and non-corrosive Boxer primers.

Hornady's gel testing at close range from 16" barrel shows dramatic fragmentation and ~ 9" penetration. Shorter barrels or longer distances should equal deeper penetration, and less fragmentation.
