Even at the time of its introduction over 100 years ago, the 44 Special wasn’t considered very powerful. For its case size, it could have rivaled the 45 Colt. But power isn’t everything, as proven when shooters nationwide acclaimed the 44 Special for its excellent accuracy.

Each one of these Punch label cartridges is loaded with a consistently 180 grain (or very close to it) bullet. It flies out of a 4” revolver barrel at a rate of 815 fps, which spells around 265 ft lbs striking energy at 25 yards. With good aim (the best friend of good accuracy), that’s more than sufficient for self-defense.

Of course, if you’re hunting with a lever-action rifle (for which this ammo is safe), you’ll hit your mark a lot harder. Some might argue the 44 Special isn’t the best for coyote hunting. But if it’s the round you want to use for coyote hunting, then you don’t have to listen to them.
