20rds – 10mm Underwood 180gr. JHP Ammo Details

This 10mm cartridge by Underwood sports a 180 grain jacketed hollow point projectile. The bullet, which is made by Speer, has a jacket and core which are tightly bonded together via the company’s unique Uni-Cor electrochemical process. Their separation during penetration is virtually impossible, resulting in the kind of stellar weight retention you should be excited to see from your personal defense ammunition.

Underwood especially stands by this cartridge’s brass casing, which has been nickel plated according to their Ducta-Bright 7a process. Its plating means that this round feeds remarkably reliably, has a high degree resistance to corrosion, and is easier to clean up for reloading purposes.

This cartridge further offers a flash suppressed powder, so you won’t be blinded by the light of your first shot if you ever have to fire in self-defense in a dark environment. Along with the devastating terminal performance of its bullet, that makes this round an all-around sure bet for effective self-defense.

Gel test Results

We fired 5-rounds of this Underwood Bonded 180 Grain 10mm ammo through a 4-layer fabric barrier and into ballistic gel. Using a Glock 29 (3.78" barrel) we noted an average penetration depth of 13.38" - just a hair shy of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's recommended 14" - 18" window. These rounds did fare very well in terms of expansion - coming in at .74" on average for our 5-shot sample. Ah yes, item#244, I currently have 5 boxes on hand, I used to have 10 but this stuff is just such a rush to shoot I couldn't resist. Underwood is by far the most meticulous maker of custom self defense ammunition operating today.
I dont have any ballistics gel so it was nice to find your testing here to see how it performs in that medium. As close as I can get are 1 gallon jugs of water with a heavy denim layer in front using 4 layers same as you guys. My test produced very similar results going through 4-5 jugs and denting or busting the front wall of the 5th or 6th jug. This round is simply brutal. I love 10mm. My test gun however was a 5"1911 platform Dan Wesson Silverback
