Federal Ammunition 230 Grain Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Ammo Details

Hydra-Shok from Federal not just a fancy name for movies and television, but one of the better options that a shooter can choose for self-defense with a handgun. These .45 ACP rounds are made with premium quality components including non-corrosive Boxer primers fitted into reloadable brass casings; both the primer and casing are nickle-plated for corrosion resistance and improved, low-friction cycling. Each brass casing has a light center crimp which prevents the jacketed hollow-point (JHP) projectile from moving rearwards due to recoil or repeat chambering; this event is called "setback" and can mar accuracy, cause a dud-fire, and lead to explosive catastrophic failure at worst. In addition, Federal laces their propellant mixture with flash suppressant for more effective shooting in low-light situations.

The Hydra-Shok JHP design consists of a swaged lead core with tall plunger, a firm copper jacket with a cannelure at its crimp point, and precise skiving surrounding the wide cavity mouth. The combination of features is intended to bypass intermediate barriers like clothing and drywall without clogging so that one can expect reliable expansion upon impact. The cannelure preserves accurate grouping while also preventing the copper jacket from separating from the lead core during entry; this results in a bullet that penetrates deep into a threat while mushrooming and delivering maximum energy to the most vital areas. Buying in bulk with this 1,000 round case allows a shooter plenty of break-in practice as well as leftover ammunition for periodic rotation.
