Brass is wasted on things like doorknobs and tubas. Where the alloy really belongs is wrapped around a lead core, like it is in this 380 ACP round from Remington’s Golden Saber line of ammunition. Brass is considerably stronger than copper, and is therefore inherently better inclined to retain a bullet’s weight for deep penetration. The rim of a Golden Saber bullet’s hollow point nose cavity has spiral cuts that facilitate wide expansion and greater energy transfer, even at lower velocities. If your EDC has a short barrel, those cuts are going to measurably improve terminal effect.

This round is a great bet for self-defense any time of day. Its propellant is low flash, so it will neither reveal your position nor blind you as readily in the dark, and its shiny nickel plated casing is easier to spy in the chamber in the nighttime. Nickel is also naturally corrosion resistant, which alongside this round’s sealed primer will keep your self-defense load better protected against performance compromising humidity.
