Why Shooters and Hunters love or hate 500rds - 7.62x39 Brown Bear 125gr. Polymer Soft Point Ammo

What a doofus I turned out to be. In English, 'Polymer Soft Point' means a soft point made of polymer. That's what I want, a plastic tipped bullet. So I ordered a bunch of them.

I opened the case on the range and found soft lead points with polymer coated cases. Oops. Being there, I had to fire them in my new Ruger Mini-30 or fire nothing.

It was a disaster. The Ruger seems to be more tightly engineered than the Russian designs and so has sharply machined edges at the chamber. The soft points jammed on those edges, cutting serious divots into the soft lead. No round misfired and some were quite accurate. But there were many jams and bent bullets flew everywhere.

Don't buy this bullet for a Ruger. And understand clearly that there's no polymer in the soft point. -

I recently purchased 500rds of this ammo and went to the range. I shot 200 rounds through my rifle and did not have a MFR or a jam. I expected to have a bit of cleanup to do, but the rounds were rather clean and the good basic cleaning of the weapon was all that was needed. I gave it a five because it was cleaner ammo than Wolf and was consistent. It is a very good bargain at this price for range shooting ammo. I will but more, but may upgrade to the Silver Bear FMJ ammo. Even my wife had fun shooting the rifle at 100 - 200 yards targets. ATG provided great service and delivery as always!
