This is Federal’s American Eagle line of ammunition (good name). Each cartridge is loaded with a 55 grain full jacket: the most popular bullet for target shooting with an AR-15, followed only by the 62 grain M855. But unlike the heavier bullet, this round’s FMJ contains no steel. It can’t attract a magnet! It also can’t expand, so you should only use it for defense if you’ve run out of soft points, solid copper hollow points, or some other type of bullet that is designed to do more than pierce and fragment within soft tissue.
