500rds – 38 Special Winchester Super-X 148gr. Wadcutter Ammo Details

Life’s not about how many houses you own, or how many stocks are in your portfolio, or how many slices of pizza you can eat in one sitting. It’s about one thing and one thing only: shooting targets with a 38 Special handgun. Take that sage advice to the bank.

Winchester Super-X Super Match 38 Special ammunition is loaded with a very nifty projectile: the 148 grain hollow base wadcutter. The bullet’s 710 fps muzzle velocity would still be fairly low even if it weighed 10 grains more. That’s another way of saying the round’s recoil is fairly mild – spot on if you want to dump out a cylinder quickly and accurately.

Why the hollow base? It lets the edge of the bullet’s skirt press up tighter against the bore, which benefits accuracy. It also balances the bullet more akin to a shuttlecock: with more of its weight distributed in and around its nose, which benefits in-flight stability – and therefore accuracy.

Why the flat nose? Well, flat nose projectiles are understood to inflict more damage to soft tissue than round nose ones. But the wadcutter’s defensive capabilities aren’t of importance as far as this ammo’s concerned. Winchester makes it for target practice, and it’s great if you want to cut clean, clearly defined holes into a bullseye. Lets you appreciate your grouping better!
