The finest of all lever-operated things, of course, is your 30-30 Winchester rifle. It deserves to fire good ammo by a good manufacturer, such as this very 150 grain semi-jacketed soft point (SP) ammo by Sellier & Bellot of Czechia.

This cartridge’s bullet features a 90% copper, 10% zinc alloy jacket. It is hard enough to assure smooth feeding and low bore fouling, yet also ductile enough to yield reliably to terminal expansion. The SP does mushroom out as it encounters resistance from flesh, all while conserving the weight and momentum it needs to penetrate lethally (0.226 sectional density). The manufacturer’s reported 0.246 G1 BC stands for 54% energy retention at 200 yards; just north of 1,000 ft lbs when fired from the manufacturer’s own 23.5” test barrel.

This ammo’s bullets have flat tips for proper functionality in a lever gun. Its high-quality brass cases also behave themselves in a lever action, and its primers and powder generate 358.2 power factor which is indicative of normal recoil.
