The 140 grain Fusion soft point: enemy to all deer, and friend to you. It is a bona fide molecularly bonded soft point – i.e. created while its lead core was submerged in a bath of electrified chemicals – and that is why its jacket is (A) extremely concentric to help the bullet stay balanced in flight, and (B) equally tough, which enables the bullet to strike deep, deep into the quarry. In addition to a soft point design, the Fusion bullet utilizes a skived jacket to deliver the broad terminal expansion that kills surely.

Federal reports this one’s G1 BC at 0.439 (24” test barrel): high enough that its bullet can easily conserve two-thirds its starting velocity at 500 yards. Federal also reports that minimum impact velocity of 1,800 fps is necessary to achieve advertised terminal ballistics, which means you can expect expansion at any range within around 600 yards.
