This cartridge is armed with a lighter bullet than the 45-70 was originally specified for. A 300 grain projectile may not be totally historically accurate, although the flatter trajectory it provides does make aiming it a tad easier. Federal’s 24” test barrel gives the bullet enough juice to carry over 1,000 ft lbs of energy to any point within 300 yards. If that point is an animal, the jacketed hollow point’s propensity for deep penetration and positive expansion will carry the day.
