It’s a little too late to be a pioneer – but fortunately, you can still hunt like one. Barnes’ premium Pioneer label 45-70 Government ammunition is loaded in Utah with first-rate components all around, including the highly effective Barnes Original hunting bullet!

This round’s 400 grain projectile is a semi-jacketed hollow point, with a flat base that gives propellant gas a clean, even surface to thrust against. It’s not just safe for lever-action rifles. It’s specifically engineered for them, so you can quickly chamber another round whenever your last one didn’t do the trick. The SJHP bullet emerges from a 24” barrel at a velocity of 1,715 fps*, and has the 0.246 G1 ballistic coefficient it needs to hit a 200-yard target without flying higher than 7.7” above the bore line (1.5” sight height). Striking energy at 200 yards is in the ballpark of 1,365 ft lbs, which spells a surefire kill (with proper shot placement, as it probably goes without saying).
