Gel test Results

In hopes of giving ourselves and our customers a better idea how this 380 Auto (ACP) self-defense ammo would perform if called upon in a self-defense scenario, we tested dozens of the best selling hollow points on the market.

We fired five rounds of this Federal Ammunition 380 Auto (ACP) ammo through a cloth barrier into Clear Ballistics calibrated synthetic gelatin and recorded the results. For these tests, we used a Ruger LCPII with a 2.75-inch barrel. In the photos, graphics and video on this page, you can see specifically how the Federal Ammunition ammo performed and how it sticks up with the rest of the 380 Auto (ACP) ammo we have tested so far.

Pretty clear. It has better than average penetration, which is great BUT it failed to expand barely at all. The ONLY reason I bought this is it's required for my Seecamp .380. Otherwise, there are much better choices that have 13 + inches of penetration and nearly double the expansion.

I have this ammo in my EDC (S & W Shield EZ) and in the testing that Ammotogo did, it is very disappointing. Almost no expansion at all. The good news for me though is that the EZ has a 3.6" barrel and should have much better results.

I tried 90 grain HYDRA SHOCK Hollow Point ammunition in my brand new GLOCK G42, right out of the Firearm manufacturer's case. The G42 was never adjusted, and it had standard factory sights. At 10 yards freehand, the first round hit dead center on the "X".. I am a disabled veteran with advanced Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease. Both the G42 and this ammunition were flawless.

This is real good self-defense ammo and I wouldn't waste it at the range. I have tested it and it performs fine
