We don’t know you personally (our loss), but we’re willing to venture a couple of things about your character if you prefer carrying a 357 Magnum revolver for protection: (1) you do not like a half measure when a full one will do, and (2) you prefer taking as few risks as possible. Based on that, we conclude that you’ll appreciate Federal Premium’s HST ammunition.

It nearly goes without saying that this ammo is powerful: 1m340 fps muzzle velocity out of Federal’s 4” test barrel, which can easily hit a nearby threat with over 600 ft lbs of energy (or very close to it). That’s more than double the minimum commonly advised for defensive use cases, which is quite the opposite of a half measure.

This ammo is designed to perform as reliably as ammo possibly can. The 154 grain jacketed hollow point? Capable of passing through barriers without breaking apart or getting clogged up with debris, thereby ensuring that it hits flesh with its capacities for deep penetration and wide expansion fully intact. The case? Plated with protective nickel, which prevents tarnishing, and which reduces friction that could have slowed extraction.

We’ve not got its data for a longer barrel, but this ammo would make a fine choice for hunting over reasonable distances with a lever-action rifle.
