20rds – 308 Win Speer Gold Dot 168gr. Bonded SP Ammo Details

Would you use a 308 Winchester rifle for personal protection? That’s a full measure if there ever were one. Why, then, would you settle for ammo that isn’t 100% designed for defense?

Speer makes this ammunition for law enforcement professionals (and not for when they’re hunting on their days off). Cops and civilians alike can take true peace of mind from the Gold Dot soft point, which uses its electrochemically bonded jacket to prevent fragmentation that could have resulted in shallow penetration.

According to Speer’s own FBI test protocol results, this cartridge’s 168 grain bullet retains around 90% of its weight after having passed through heavy clothing or plywood and then entering ordnance gelatin. If the barrier is sheet steel, weight retention dips to around 78%; safety glass or wall board, 70% and 67% respectively.

The Gold Dot bonded SP makes reliably deep penetration even more effective by coupling it with wide terminal expansion – around 0.5” during the heavy clothing portion of the test protocol. That’s genuine stopping power, and Speer promises expansion even if your barrel is 10” and you’re firing out to 200 yards (deer hunters, take note).

Speer presciently loads their Gold Dot ammo with low-flash propellant; assurance that nighttime ignition won’t blind the shooter. Nickel-plated brass cases protect this ammo from corrosion and jamming!
