Hornady created their American Whitetail Tipped series ammunition to showcase the awesome deer-tackling performance of their Super Shock Tip projectile. The 165 grain lead-core bullet’s streamlined tip, side profile and tapered base synergize well enough to achieve a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.447 – so high that the bullet can conserve nearly two-thirds of its muzzle energy at 300 yards.

And the SST certainly puts all that energy to good use. Even lower-velocity contact forces lightning-fast expansion – the very sort which paralyzes an animal on impact, and then subdues it even further via a gaping permanent wound column. To add injury to injury, the SST is also adorned with two structures that bind its jacket to its core: a cannelure, and Hornady’s own InterLock ring.
