Weatherby 180 Grain TTSX Ammo Details

At the time of writing, Weatherby loads ten variants of 30-378 Weatherby Magnum ammunition. This is their middleweight lead-free hunting load, adorned with Barnes’ own 180 grain Tipped Triple-Shock X (TTSX).

Legal compliance is only the first of the TTSX’s many benefits. Its lack of lead translates to cleaner performance: both inside your barrel and inside your trophy’s meat. The CNC lathed solid copper alloy bullet has the balance requisite for extremely straight flight. It is also tougher than a bimetal bullet, and demonstrates excellent weight retention as it penetrates deeply.

The TTSX’s tip only makes it more aerodynamic. If the 0.484 G1 BC bullet takes flight at its advertised muzzle velocity, it’ll reach 500 yards with around 2,225 ft lbs of striking energy. By Weatherby’s measure, the bullet drops -8.1” at 400 yards; -21.7” at 500 yards (that’s following a 300-yard zero, of course). That same polymer tip also facilitates the wide expansion which quickly ends a hunt in the hunter’s favor. The TTSX unfurls four edged petals which do their job quickly.
