We had heard rumors that an absolute legend was shopping for 300 Winchester Magnum hunting ammo – but we didn’t know that legend was you. Good thing we’re all stocked up on Hornady American Whitetail Tipped!

Hornady may have introduced the AWT label in 2025, but this round’s bullet has proven itself on the hunting grounds since 1998. It is the Super Shock Tip, which is one of Hornady’s most popular bullets for deer hunting (i.e. the application it’s designed for).

The SST is 165 grains of ballistically efficient goodness. Its tip and boat tail streamline its profile at both ends, and its secant ogive shape is similarly designed to reduce drag. The bullet meets such little opposition in flight that it hits 0.447 G1 BC out of a 24” test barrel – high enough that it can conserve over half of its starting energy at 400 yards.

Wide expansion. Deep penetration. They’re the SST’s twin talents, which it respectively owes to its tipped nose cavity and InterLock ringed jacket. Give it the right the direction and the SST will put any wild game out of commission.
