PMC Ammunition 55 Grain Pointed Soft-Point (PSP) Ammo Details

PMC’s most important job is supplying ammunition to the South Korean military. (We’re lucky to have a country like Canada lining our northern border; South Korea kind of drew the short straw in that regard.) But PMC also makes plenty of 223 Rem hunting ammo, and we’re blessed to have a huge stack of the stuff in our warehouse. We’d like to send some your way so you can plow varmints into oblivion and put toe tags on wild boars!

This cartridge is loaded with a 55 grain pointed soft point bullet, which clears muzzle at a velocity of 3,200 fps. Our own military’s M193 ball ammo has really similar specs – but the PSP does something an FMJ could only dream of. Once the bullet’s exposed lead core sinks into soft tissue, it smooshes down and forces the front half of the bullet to flatten out. That’s the terminal performance which makes a hunting bullet especially deadly to small and medium game!

The aerodynamic PSP bullet has a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.222 (which is also comparable to M193). It’ll only retain over 1,000 ft lbs of energy until about 77 yards (or even closer if your rifle’s barrel is shorter than 24”), which does kind of limit its effective range as far as whitetail hunting is concerned. But the bullet’s flat trajectory makes sharpshooting at close-to-medium range a breeze once you’ve mastered the basics of marksmanship. Brass-cased, Boxer-primed, reloadable and noncorrosive, this ammo ought to pair perfectly with any 5.56x45 or 223 Rem firearm including AR-style rifles and pistols.
