This cartridge is loaded with Hornady’s own Extremely Low Drag Varmint projectile. As a member of the ELD family, the ELD-VT features a Heat Shield polymer tip that is specially engineered to forgo deformation in response to aerodynamic heating. The boat tail bullet also wears the AMP jacket it needs to remain rotationally stable until it arrives at a bullseye or rodent. Hornady recorded the 62 grain bullet’s 3,300 fps muzzle velocity, 0.395 G1 BC and 0.199 G7 BC with a 24” test barrel.

The ELD-VT’s Heat Shield doesn’t just streamline it. It also initiates nearly instantaneous fragmentation across a broad range of impact velocities. The bullet’s terminal performance is essentially equivalent to that of a tiny hand grenade.
