The Taurus Judge and S&W Governor reinvented the way people see the 410 Bore shotgun shell. It’s no longer just for upland game. It’s now a stalwart defender as well!

If your own 410/45 revolver has the noble job of defending you, then Hornady has made just the ammo you need. This Critical Defense shell delivers exactly three projectiles (hence the “Triple Defense” in its title). Its plastic wad holds two high-antimony lead balls: 0.35 caliber, which makes them just 0.01” smaller in diameter than 000 buck. Such heavy shot pellets excel at deep penetration, and they do an even better job of it when they’re hardened with so much antimony.

The plastic wad sits at the base of the shell’s FTX slug. It’s a solid lead slug: unrifled, yet suitable for all smoothbore 410 firearms (including shotguns). The little slug’s most notable feature is its Flex Tip, which rests inside its hollow point nose cavity so as to preserve the slug’s capacity for terminal expansion. It ensures that the slug spreads out wide, even if the threat is heavily clothed.

This 2-1/2” shell is designed to put all three of its projectiles on a man-sized target at 7 yards.
