The 300 Win Mag isn’t a period. It is an exclamation point – and one that very often appears at the end of a whitetail’s life sentence. If you’d like to make a lot of noise followed by a lot of venison chili, then we’ve got just the ammo you need!

Hornady American Whitetail is made so Americans can hunt their favorite game (whitetail, although the ammo police won’t throw you into a big pit of lava if you use it for hunting something else). This particular cartridge’s 150 grain bullet is an InterLock: a soft point of Hornady’s own design and creation, and which is too good to be referred to merely as an “SP.”

The InterLock may not have a perfectly sharp tip, but its secant ogive geometry, optimized bearing surface, and slender point all give it above-average aerodynamic efficiency for an SP. At 3,275 fps MV and 0.338 G1 BC out of a 24” barrel, the InterLock has the numbers it needs to retain around 57% of its energy at 300 yards. Not remotely shabby in light of its lesser weight!

The InterLock uses its energy effectively. Its jacket is weakened by a symmetrical array of inner grooves, and tapered: two reasons why its expansion is clockwork at close and long range alike. The InterLock’s jacket is also crimped to its core by a cannelure, and once again locked to its core by the appropriately named InterLock ring. These give the bullet the fortitude it needs to press deep into game and keep on pressing.
