These excellent hunting rounds from Fiocchi's Extrema line are mainly manufactured in Ozark, MO and undergo a meticulous inspection process. Each .30-06 cartridge propels a 180 grain projectile from Hornady's Super Shock Tip (SST) brand. 180 grains is a common hunting weight in this caliber due to its balance between low drop and high impact energy. The low-drag SST design consists of a hollow-point front, a red polymer windshield, a tapered boat tail rear, and Hornady's Interlock ring. The low, internal ring works in conjunction with the toothed cannelure in order to slow expansion thereby increasing its effect on big game. As an added benefit, the cannelure maintains the projectile's position in its crimp under heavy recoil and rough handling in order to preserve accuracy.
Upon impact, the SST's ballistic tip is driven back into the hollow cavity, initiating a controlled rate of expansion with no jacket separation and very little fragmentation. As the bullet mushrooms out it will penetrate past the hide and gristle of a boar before yawing and depositing most of it's energy in vital organs. Fiocchi, an Italian manufacturer, produces these .30-06 Springfield rounds using reloadable brass casings and clean-igniting Boxer primers. Their rich history dating back to 1876 as well as their close relationship with shooters around the globe allows them to produce ammunition that is relevant and extremely effective.
