1000rds – 5.56x45 Wolf Gold 62gr. FMJ M855 Ammo

Wolf Ammunition 62 Grain Penetrator Ammo Details

The M855 doesn’t have green paint on its tip because it’s a pretty color! The paint indicates that this 5.56x45 round’s bullet contains seven grains of steel beneath the tip of its jacket. The penetrator bullet is aptly named, as it’s able to pierce 1/8” steel plating at close to medium range with ease. (This round’s bullet is magnetic, though, so take care which indoor ranges you bring it to.)

Wolf doesn’t always load steel cases. Their Gold label stands for brass cases, making this Tawainese made ammo a smart buy for handloaders. Brass cases also cycle more efficiently through an AR-15, and in conjunction with non-corrosive primers help to keep a rifle’s action far cleaner.

This round’s bullet is slightly heavier than usual at 62 grains. This helps it retain greater momentum downrange for improved resistance to wind deflection. Just take care that a 1:7 twist barrel won’t give a 62 grain bullet optimal stability. A 1:8 or 1:9 twist is preferable for M855 ammo.
