I purchased an American Derringer Model 4 (4" barrel) a few years ago, and experimented with various 2½" .410 loads and manufacturers.

I found the Federal 2½" 4x000 Buckshot Personal Defense rounds to be, by far, the best rounds for this particular weapon.

2" pattern at 21' consistently! For some, that pattern might be a little tight to clear the hallway but it is a great "get off my porch" or "get off me" "belly-gun" round and the recoil was much less than the ..45 Colt rounds and much less than ANY of the 3" .410 rounds I chanced to test. -
