The 28 Gauge deserves more respect. Sure, it wouldn’t be our first choice for lion hunting, but the shotgun’s light weight, low recoil and reserved report all make it a great thing for bird hunting. Whether you’ve got a hot new model 28ga shotgun or grampa’s old hand-me-down, you’re going to like hunting pheasant and turkey with Winchester Super-X.

This 2-3/4” shell is loaded with exactly one ounce of #5 shot, a size that is preferred by many for bagging galliform game. Those 170 pellets are each a standard 0.120" in diameter, and rocket out of the barrel at a 1,205 fps muzzle velocity. (The extra 5 fps is for good luck.) The shot is pressed down the barrel by a one-piece hinged wad, which makes already manageable recoil even less intrusive by collapsing during ignition.

Winchester throws in a few welcome bonuses, including their famously dependable 209 shotgun primer, powder that burns up cleanly, and a high-brass hull that slides into a chamber like it’s finally going home. If you reload empty shells, reload this ammo’s empty shells!
