This 357 Magnum cartridge by Hornady is a bit like a Swiss Army knife. That doesn’t mean it has a corkscrew and a little plastic toothpick. It means it’s useful for many applications, which makes this case of Nebraska-made ammo a versatile investment in your revolver.Accuracy is Hornady’s foundational value. Their XTP brand jacketed hollow point lives up to a marksman’s highest standards thanks to its swaged lead core, which is uniformly dense and well balanced, as well as its evenly thick copper jacket. At 125 grains the XTP is light enough to hit a muzzle velocity of 1,500 fps out of an 8” vented barrel. At that rate the XTP should remain supersonic a short distance beyond 100 yards (and even further if you choose to hunt varmints with a lever-action rifle).
The XTP’s reliable expansion makes it an appropriate pick for self-defense as well. Its jacket is drawn instead of plated – a technicality that permits the jacket to become progressively thinner toward its rim, which facilitates wider terminal expansion at lower velocities.
Hornady American Gunner 357 Mag ammo is designed to work well in all makes and models of firearms (assuming they’re chambered for 357 Mag, of course). Reloadable brass cases, noncorrosive Boxer primers, and a bullet nose profile that’s safe for lever gun magazines!
