This cartridge would surely transform any 9mm pistol or carbine into a formidable tool for self-defense. It certainly wouldn’t disappoint if you used it for varmint hunting, either. That’s because Underwood loaded it with the High Energy Retaining Ordnance (HERO) Maximum Expansion: a futuristic solid copper hollow point (SCHP) projectile.

The HERO Maximum Expansion doesn’t react to impact with hard surfaces the same way it as would with a soft medium. If the SCHP strikes drywall, a vehicle door, or even bone, it fails to produce significant expansion. But once it plunges into flesh, the SCHP widens its diameter and displaces its energy outward by extending six razor sharp petals. Think of it as a “smart bullet.”

The HERO Maximum Expansion doesn’t have any dense lead to weigh it down. It has its extraordinarily light 70 grain weight to thank for that, as well as its wildly fast 1,650 fps muzzle velocity (out of a 4” test barrel). Expect a very flat close range trajectory from so fast-moving a projectile.
