This cartridge’s 80 grain bullet would be a very bad thing to happen to a varmint. It is the ELD-VT, which foregoes any features that would help it penetrate deeply in the interest of delivering explosive, shrapnel-flinging, varmint-killing terminal performance. Impact drives the ELD-VT’s tip across a long air gap until connecting with the flat surface of the lead core, at which instant – KERBLANGO – dead varmint.

The ELD-VT’s accuracy is on par with that of any match-grade target bullet. Its Heat Shield tip is carefully engineered to increase stability and reduce drag, and made of polymer that aerodynamic friction can’t deform. Its AMP jacket is thin, and drawn to standards which eliminate variation in wall thickness. The boat tail bullet’s 0.206 G7 ballistic coefficient is so high that it ought to stay supersonic until around 1,150 yards (assuming it is fired from a 24” barrel; i.e. the same length as Hornady’s test barrel)!
