You also don’t have to be a sniper to understand why precision is so important when it comes to match grade ammunition!

Take this 6.5 PRC Precision Match series cartridge by Barnes of Utah, for example. Its Match Burner open tip match projectile is precisely 1.466" in length, precisely 145 grains in weight, and surrounded by a virtually perfectly concentric copper jacket. Its injection-molded lead core exhibits no flaws in its weight distribution. Its boat tail is angled just right to minimize a 0.264” diameter bullet’s drag.

Barnes recorded this round’s 2,960 fps muzzle velocity and G1 0.703/G7 0.350 ballistic coefficients with a 24” test barrel. Those numbers mean that the Match Burner’s trajectory would rise by just 15.1” before reaching its target at 500 yards, and drop to just -16.74” 100 yards afterward. Take note that Barnes recommends a barrel twist no slower than 1:8” for this ammunition!
