Armscor could have plunked any old bullet into this 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge’s pristine brass case and called it a day. Instead, they loaded it with a 143 grain Extremely Low Drag - eXpanding (ELD-X) and called it a superior hunting load.

The ELD-X is Hornady’s master thesis on drag reduction. Its boat tail? Secant ogive profile? Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket? Deformation-proof Heat Shield polymer tip? Drag Variability Reduction Technology flat meplat? They’re all there to help the ELD-X bolt through the air with as little resistance as possible (0.315 G7 BC).

The Heat Shield’s polymer tail goes down a ways into the ELD-X’s nose cavity, stopping just shy of the bottom. Impact forces it to cross this short gap before slamming into the cavity, which triggers deadly expansion at all ranges. The ELD-X’s InterLock ring helps it remain more intact as it tunnels inward. Weight retention at 400+ yards is 85%, minimum!
