HSM’s “Match” ammo isn’t for lighting cigars. It’s meant for winning matches, which is precisely what you’re going to do once you’re sitting on a pile of this 5.56x45mm ammunition (if you feel like it, of course).

This cartridge is topped with the most successful competition of all time, which has clinched more matches than all of Sierra’s competitors’ bullets put together. It is the MatchKing: a hollow point boat tail with a jacket so concentric that you’d need specialized equipment and too much free time to find any variation in its wall thickness, as well as the narrow nose cavity, uniformly dispersed lead core, and sloping base it needs to fly with the utmost precision. Like the MK262 cartridge that inspired it, this round’s MatchKing also has a cannelure (which keeps forceful recoil from jerking the bullet out of the case mouth).

The MatchKing wasn’t developed for hunting, but that doesn’t stop varmint hunters from putting the non-expanding to excellent use. Be advised that Sierra advises this round’s heavy 77 grain 0.182 G7 BC target bullet for barrels with 1:8” twist rate or faster (i.e. not 1:6” or 1:7”).
