Is 45 Colt powerful enough for hunting whitetail and bear? Without question. So long as you (A) acknowledge the laws of physics, and (B) know how and where to aim, no medium game will stand a chance against you and this Buffalo Bore ammo.

This standard pressure load’s 225 grain bullet is an ideal pick for hunting any manner of critter, plus self-defense. It is the Barnes XPB: a solid copper hollow point which (A) reliably retains the mass it needs in order to punch deep into flesh, and (B) fans out six flat petals during penetration. The XPB’s superior energy transfer and wide wound channel take care of business quickly.

Buffalo Bore does not recommend using this ammo to hunt outside of 50 yards. The manufacturer collected muzzle velocity data using four real firearms:

• Taurus Titanium (2” barrel) - 809 fps

• S&W MT. Gun (4” barrel) - 958 fps

• Ruger 2006 large frame Vaquero (5.5” barrel) - 1,054 fps

• Freedom Arms Mod. 97 (5.25” barrel) 1,057 fps
