This is not 45 ACP (aka 45 Auto) ammunition. It is 45 Auto Rim: specifically designed for 1917 revolvers, and incompatible with 45 ACP semi-automatics.

Buffalo Bore really cooked up something special right here. It’s 45 Auto Rim – loaded to the ballistic equivalent of 45 ACP +P, albeit with accompanying pressure equivalent to standard pressure 45 ACP. That translates to big power that any 1917 revolver can handle (provided it’s in good operating condition, of course).

This cartridge is loaded with a 200 grain jacketed hollow point, which is fully functional and designed to deliver reliable expansion. Buffalo Bore estimates its penetration through bone and flesh at around 14”. The JHP is backed by flash-suppressed propellant, which will prove invaluable if you ever have to defend yourself in low light (most civilian defensive shootings occur in precisely such a condition).

Buffalo Bore records muzzle velocities using real firearms. They offer the following ballistic data for these revolvers:

★ S&W Model 325 (scandium), 2.5" bbl - 950 fps, 401 ft lbs

★ S&W Mountain Gun, 4" bbl - 1,033 fps, 474 ft lbs

★ S&W Model 1917 (1937 production), 5.5" bbl - 1,046 fps, 486 ft lbs

★ S&W 1955 Target (25-2), 6.5" bbl - 1,063 fps, 502 ft lbs
