We would never imply that John M. Browning didn’t design the 45 ACP correctly. It’s just that we often find ourselves wishing the hallowed Forty-Five had a bit more – oomph.

What do you know. That very thing already exists thanks to Underwood: 45 ACP +P. This cartridge is loaded to 23,000 psi max pressure; a 9.5% increase over standard pressure. That means you should only fire it in a +P rated firearm, as well as expect more recoil. That also means you will fire a flatter-flying, harder-hitting bullet – not a bad thing at all if you’re hunting or defending.

This round’s lead-free bullet ups the ante even higher. It is the Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator: 200 grains of solid copper designed to overcome barriers, penetrate flesh deeply, and create hydraulic pressure that inflicts a wide wound channel.

With Underwood, you get two nice perks. These are low-flash propellant, which is meant to keep you from blinding yourself while firing in the dark, and nickel-plated brass cases, which help semi-automatics feed and eject more reliably.
